If you can run a screwdriver and browse Facebook,
you can install CowCams.
Learn More about CowCams
How does this work?
CowCams uses extended wifi systems to bridge or repeat wifi from the house to the barn. The cameras installed in the barn connect wirelessly to the extended wifi network. You do not need to have wifi already! Our kit comes with everything you need!
You purchase a kit and cameras from our shop, and install it yourself. It’s easier than it sounds (really) and we provide a guide and tech support.
Below is a video of how the computer interface works and how you can zoom and move cameras. You will also be able to control the cameras from your smart phone or tablet.
What do I need?
Line of sight between camera site (barn, corral, water tank, whatever you want to monitor) and house.
Desired camera site and home need to be less than 5 miles apart.
Electricity source at desired camera site
Windows Computer (software with Windows is required to run the system, but the camera feeds can be viewed from iOS or Android phones and tablets)
Do I need the internet at home?
CowCams does not require an internet connection to work. A system can be setup for a ranch that doesn't even have dial up. You can still view the cameras on your computer or phone from inside your house, but you will not be able to view them remotely.
Ranches with High Speed internet will be able to view the cameras from the internet or smartphone from any location where cellular data or wifi is available. For example if you have internet at the house computer, our software can put the cameras online so that you can open the app on your phone and watch your heifers while watching your kids basketball game. (Some internet connections such as hot spots will not work, please verify with us before purchasing)
What about Satellite Internet:
Yes! Our system will work with satellite internet. See our FAQ page for more details. Including steps for getting your system online.
What’s in the basic kit?
The basic kit will get you started with all the equipment including antennas, mounting hardware, cables, software, and remote support. Cameras are purchased separately but will be programmed to work with your kit.
How do I choose cameras?
For inside barns, we recommend starting with 2 or 3 indoor cameras. We have hundreds of these throughout Montana and North Dakota and rarely see issues.
For mounting cameras in outdoor locations we recommend starting out with our 5x model (4 power optical zoom) for smaller pens up to 150 feet, and the 20x, 32x or 36x options for longer distances.
Can I change where the cameras are pointed?
All of our cameras can be controlled (pan, tilt, zoom) directly from your smart device!
Do they work at night?
Our indoor models have night vision to 150 feet, our 20x model 330 feet, and our 32 and 36x models have night vision over 1500 feet. See our store for more details about each camera.

What People Are Saying:
“One heifer we watched and knew she was not making a lot of progress. Before long we could see the very tip of the nose and knew we had two legs back.”
— John & Holly Cowell
“Kahle called me the other night and asked if I could check on a cow he put in the pulling pen - so I kept an eye on her 1,200 miles away from the ranch.”
— Scott Descheemaeker
